My latest vintage dress

It's been a while since I last wrote. I've been helping my husband with the house and its been a very busy six months or so.  Currently I'm unwell with a bad back.  I digress!

I bought this beautiful wounded bird from a fantastic ebay seller.  I bought a dress from her last year and I fell in love with the rose print on this dress.
The under arms were shredded and it was coming apart in various places.

I have got after photos to start with and before below photos. I paid £10 with free postage.
I have reinforced the under arms with excess material taken from the inside hem if the dress and I've sewn it to match previous repairs.

I have used iron on mender stitched in place and then sealed with heat.
I've repaired the skirt as well.
I sewed the popper back on it was luckily still attached!
I took off the mismatched buttons and added off white ribbon to tidy up the edges.
I added a button in the same orange as the rose print.

You can by vintage from the hootingowlboutique on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/thehootingowlboutique

Goals for 2017

This is what I want to achieve in 2017.

Better health

Being organised and productive.

Spend more time with my friends.

Listen to more music.

Read New books.

Have more days out.

Enjoying the time I spend at home.

Being happier with my lot in life.

Lose weight and be active.

2017

The last 12 months were interesting. Overall it was a mixed bag of things. My home is on track to be finished.

I've enjoyed more time with my husband and family. I've been ill with odd infections.

This year, I want more adventures and to enjoy my time away from work. I intend to have more spontaneously unplanned days out.
I'm going on holiday somewhere nice.

Overall I want this year to be more about what I want and need. I'm fed up of worrying about everything and everyone else instead of me and my husband.

I'm also going to spend more time doing things I enjoy instead of being on the internet constantly.

Blue glitter will get more updates as well.

Here's to 2017

10 things I wish I could tell my younger self.

The benefit of getting older is learning from your experiences. Here are somethings I wish that I could tell my younger self.

1. Don't worry what others thing because they are not you!

2. Never be afraid to wear what you want and fuck the rest. As long as you are happy embrace anything weird and wonderful that catches your eye. This is an integral part of your adult self and the main way you express yourself.

3. You will fall out of love with painting but you will find creativity in other things such as sewing and writing. However you will not lose your love of art and painting overall.

4. Stand up for yourself and never lose your voice- No-one can stick up for you!

5. High heels, no matter how pretty hurt- please consider the impact of only buying satin/velvet and suede shoes. I know they are pretty but not always practical.

6. Never be ashamed of your personality and general chatty nature- yes you talk a lot but hey, it's part of who you are- who cares if it freaks people out?

7. You won;t have your dream job but working with people does help.

8. Learn to shop smarter and not buying something because it's cheap.

9. Music is as important as reading. Make time for it.

10. Step away from the junk food and try to maintain an exercise plan!

Topshop red floral dress repair

I bought this beautiful dress back in March and she has been waiting on my sewing pile for a repair.

The seam in the back ripped and needed reinforcement.

Some webbing tape and a bit of extra fabric taken from a hem and she is as good as new.  I did extra stitching to strengthen the exams as well.

2016 so far..

So it's been a while since I last wrote. This year has been very interesting so far, my extension to my house has been going extremely well.

This year has been challenging and interesting, it has been great to focus on my real life and building up what I have around me to make life more comfortable and happy.

I appreciate my blog has suffered for time away I have had. It has been worth it because I feel better as a person and withing myself.

I have spent time reorganising my wardrobe, as my husband has kindly built me a small built in wardrob, which I have had great fun filling up!

as a large part of my wardrobe was in storage, the way I have dressed has changed and mellowed. its still offbeat but its more grown up.

I am looking forward to planning the new house decorations, I have various projects on the go and I cannot wait to share them with you!

My succulent garden is growing well, more can be seen on my instagram!

Date night cookbook review

I was recently lucky enough to be selected  to review the fantastic new book by Rebecca Warbis. When I was contacted by Rebecca I was struck by how lovely she is and congratulations on your first book, I hope to see many more in the future!

I am a big fan of cooking for others. Sadly this activity has been limited of late due to our extension and a general lack of a full kitchen!

I got cracking with this lovely book, I ended up making the campfire jackets, and after dinner s'mores. (I even changed my weekly nachos after reading this) I am happy to say both went down very well.

At present I am limited to an oven for cooking so what I have made was driven by this. I adore the recipes and the date themes it made me smile. If you wanted you could go all out and decorate according to the theme.

What struck me about this book over a lot of cook books I have, is that it's simply laid out but it's also very pretty, the recipes are straight forward and fun. I love the photographs and typography used.

I feel like its the ultimate bloggers cook book because of all of the amazing graphics. It's a small book so you could very easily throw it in your bag for a weekend away.

The date themes the food is based around is adorable and I cannot wait to make some more of the  recipes and have more romantic evenings with my husband.

I would highly recommend this lovely book, it would make a great gift in times for valentines day or as something to have for a quiet evening in with your partner.

You can get it on Amazon!

I*Please note this book has been gifted to me for the purpose of the review all opinions are my own.
